A Day In Gaming: Brief Trip To The Stars

A small reprieve from the insanity

I haven’t written in a while, something I will write about I’m sure but in short, it’s been incredibly busy with the apartment purchase. And I don’t even have keys yet. Nevertheless I did feel compelled to do a short enough post about another brief exposure to EVE online. Which, was more a necessity than anything.

On top of falling off the bandwagon in terms of well, most of my life, I also stopped playing EVE. I was just too busy and circumstances around bank cards, with one approaching expiry, meant my subscriptions couldn’t renew. A nice touch, instead of needing to go and physically click the cancel button. Which is a shame in of itself as I effectively flaked out on a customer. But from what I can pick up on in my usual back channels, they too have been on a bit of a break, so perhaps all’s well that ends well.

Anyway, what actually brought me back in was a blog post from another player. They mentioned their own struggles with playtime due to real life, however they had a nugget of information that brought me into action. A purge of low sec freeports had been announced, which meant some of my assets now had a target on their back.

I relied on a freeport for composite production, to feed my T2 production supply chain. At peak I would be managing the import of raw materials from a staging high sec system, use my Jump Freighter to get it into the refinery, then same ship would bring the finished product back out. It’s a lot of risk for one person and I’m ignoring some of the safety mechanisms others would say are mandatory for Jump Freight use. However I am saving, I believe 600 or so million ISK on just one round trip with PushX. At some point, I will be “in the green”, save for my time.

So, I bought the weekend pack of three days of game time on my two accounts and set forth to the system. When I got there, from where I left off, I had finished off a run of composites and my JF was also positioned there. I jumped into action pretty quick, having filled the freighter and positioned my other character on the other side of the gate for the eyes and encouraging of faster warp by the JF. Even though it was approaching a busy time for attackers, I just went ahead with it and sure enough, no issues were had. Bulk of my wealth was extracted.

I did a few more trips, just to get some loose ends. All in all, there is about 10.7 billion ISK here in assets as of todays prices. Consider I have 53 billion in liquid ISK, when I look at my total net worth of 74.7 billion, I think I moved about half of my total assets in terms of wealth. This excludes things under my corporation, but again this was a significant thing to do.

And it might be the last thing I do in EVE for a while yet again. Or, maybe not? This game is honestly a virus. Just even this brief jaunt across the stars I feel the dulcet tones of her voice, drawing me back in. As I write these words I feel like I’m being seduced, the account management screen is even still up on the other monitor. I could simply re-subscribe, with a new expansion due on Tuesday too.

Or it’s the procrastination on packing moving boxes talking.

Photographer

I've no real claim to fame when it comes to good photos, and it likely shows with the header photo here, because it was me who took it! Usually these are screenshots or photos I took with my phone one day, so you know, take it or leave it!
