Website Updates Completed!

Only took three months to write this hah

After a lot of work, spread over multiple months, the latest version of my website is live. It has been live for a little bit longer than this blog post as quite frankly, I was sick of staring at the code base haha. But, that has now passed and I’m quite happily back into the fray of planning new content for the masses to consume. I would like to branch into things such as video production and again reevaluate podcast production. But, I also only have so much time in the world, so it would take quite a chunk of planning. Who knows though!

I introduced a new Release Tracker section of my website, that holds a table detailing every piece of software I’ve written. As part of that, the release notes for my website are included which you can find here. But, for a high level overview of what’s changed, there’s been some changes in the front page of the website. Namely, adjusting what was displayed there front and center, while also removing some things. A big change that you could call a breaking change, was changing how the URLs for my blog posts look. But, that was to account for the new deployment mechanism of my website that has lead to some serious cost savings. You can definitely expect a blog post on that in the near future. Then there was some more changes, the odd bug fix here or there, if you want to go into the weeds, then the release notes linked above will help you achieve that!

In terms of the other updates I alluded to in the title, times are exciting for me! I’m making some big changes in the self hosting world, changing providers, hopefully also changing the way I do things in some regards. I’ve recently been on a cost reduction spree, which I have enjoyed. I was hoping to reduce costs more by shifting everything to run off of a machine at home. However based on some estimates, I felt the electricity footprint of my planned hardware would of just increased my electricity bill costs by a margin that would of made the changes redundant. Not that it was a huge increase, but if the point of making the change was to reduce my month to month costs and the change increases month to month costs in another category, then it seems moot. Either way, I suppose if the net reduction in costs is high enough, one could justify it. But, I need to improve my energy monitoring at home so expect a project on a version two of that set up where I’m going completely open source thanks to Tasmota!

That’s all for now I think, I hope to get into a nice rhythm with content production soon. So, I hope you will join me for the ride!

Thank you!

You could of consumed content on any website, but you went ahead and consumed my content, so I'm very grateful! If you liked this, then you might like this other piece of content I worked on.

Talking about this update back in January!

Photographer

I've no real claim to fame when it comes to good photos, so it's why the header photo for this post was shot by XPS . You can find some more photos from them on Unsplash. Unsplash is a great place to source photos for your website, presentation and more! But it wouldn't be anything without the photographers who put in the work.

Support what I do

I write for the love and passion I have for technology. Just reading and sharing my articles is more than enough. But if you want to offer more direct support, then you can support the running costs of my website by donating via Stripe. Only do so if you feel I have truly delivered value, but as I said, your readership is more than enough already. Thank you :)
